We announce two Open Positions in the Computational Synthetic Biology Group
Institute for Integrative Systems Biology (I²SysBio), Valencia, Spain
Funded by the ERC Project CellWise Principal Investigator: Dr. Irene Otero-Muras

We are opening two positions (a 4 years fully funded PhD position and a 2 years Postdoc position) to join the Computational Synthetic Biology Group at I²SysBio in Valencia working on the ERC-funded project CellWise. The main goal of the project is to achieve predictability in the design, analysis, and control of stochastic biomolecular circuits that govern complex cellular functions in vivo, with the ultimate aim of engineering cell cognition.
Specific objectives include:

1) Enable the predictive design of biocircuits with complex functions, incorporating noise and uncertainty.
2) Understand and control nonlinear emergent behaviors in stochastic biomolecular networks.
3) Engineer cellular cognition in microorganisms, including functions such as memory and decision-making.4)
4) Elucidating and controlling cellular decision-making processes related to yeast aging and bacterial persistence.

 2 Open Positions:

1.    Computational background
Applicants should hold a MSc in Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, or related fields. Strong theoretical and computational skills are essential. A background in partial differential equations (PDEs) or PIDEs, stochastic modeling,  machine learning is highly valued.

2.    Biology/Biotech background

Applicants should hold a MSc Biology, Biotechnology or related disciplines. Expertise in microbial synthetic biology, single cell time lapse fluorescence microscopy is highly valued.
Candidates interested in a PhD or a Postdoctoral position who fulfill one of the two profiles described above are invited to send a motivation letter and CV before 15 September 2025  irene.otero.muras@csic.es

Informal inquiries are welcome.
